Īccording to director Koichi Sakamoto, Ultraman Trigger is designed to resemble American comic book superheroes, citing the evolution of their costume designs over the years, while at the same time trying to turn Trigger into an Ultra worthy of the image of Reiwa Era. Golden parts were added onto Trigger's arms and feet to make him more modern and distinguished from Tiga. To enhance the "Ultra-Ancient" image, Gotoh added relief-like details on his Protector that change with each form round in Power Type, angular in Sky Type and mixed in Multi Type. Masayuki Gotoh was requested to design an Ultraman based on Tiga for the modern era, and decided to go with a simple design. Trigger's name was picked form a word that started with the letter 'T' and sounded close to Tiga's name. Unfortunately, this draft was rejected by Tsuburaya Productions, with writer Junichiro Ashiki speculating the reason to be too complicated to fit into a 25-episode series. While the setting of three Ultras seems to be based on Ultraman Tiga and his two other unnamed companions, Koichi Sakamoto denied their connections and simply stating it to be a coincidence. In addition, the three Ultras would later combine into a single entity, which later known as Glitter Trigger Eternity in the final design. Together, the three fought against their corresponding Giant of Darkness, with the drama centering around relationships from both the protagonist to the antagonist sides. In it, three different Ultras bond with different hosts, one is an ancient human (Kengo), the other is a normal present day human (Akito) and the last one is an alien (Ignis). The original concept behind Ultraman Trigger was originally three separate Ultras who bonded to three separate hosts, taking cues from Ultraman R/B and Ultraman Taiga of more than one Ultra is the starring character.
